A first-class college preparatory academic program!
GEORGE STEVENS ACADEMY provides an authentic American experience in the safe, picturesque, small town of Blue Hill on the seacoast of Maine. We enroll a maximum of 50 international students within a total student body of 330. is means that most of the friends of our international students will be American schoolmates. Our campus is footsteps away from the heart of Blue Hill, and our students get to know the local townspeople and shopkeepers.
Coming to GSA is an immersion experience in American life and culture. Our international students are surrounded by American peers who live nearby. Our size means they participate in every aspect of the school, interacting with their American classmates. ey will spend time with them in their homes on weekends and sometimes during vacations.
Maine is the safest state in the U.S., and the town of Blue Hill is especially so. Many people do not lock their cars or even their homes. You can see the harbor from our campus. It is perfectly safe for our students to walk around town, and, they do so every day, going to shops, the market, the town beach, and back and forth to the dormitories.
We have a full college prep program with multiple AP and honors classes, ESL for those who need it, and excellent academic support for students when they struggle. Our graduating classes are small, so every senior gets personalized college counseling beginning in the 11th grade.
GSA has an award-winning jazz band, and excellent ne and performing arts. We also have a full complement of sports and other activities for both boys and girls. There are several opportunities for leadership, whether serving as a Student Proctor (a group of residential students who have responsibilities in the dorms), as a member of GSA’s Student Council, or by taking our Outdoor Leadership course. You can also join GSA’s Student Ambassadors Program, where residential and day students collaborate to plan cultural events, such as International Night, for the broader community.
In addition to the size of our program, and our location in a safe American town, a third distinctive feature of George Stevens Academy is that our student body is drawn from every part of our community. Most of our students plan to go on to universities, but some plan on entering the workforce after graduation. And we have students from every socio- economic level. All this makes for a vibrant student body, one that matches the world.
Our students make friends with peers from all walks of life. is is a great preparation for college, for business, and for life. Unlike many other schools, students will not be surrounded only by peers who
are just like them; GSA students go to school with students from all levels of society, who have joined into a single, cohesive, friendly, but heterogeneous student body.
Our program for students who plan to enter the workforce immeditely after high school is open to all students, which means our students learn about trades and industries together, whether they will be the owner of the business or someone who works in it. ese classes include:
